Custom-Made Cotton Tote Bags: How to Get a Bag Made for Your Brand

Custom-Made Cotton Tote Bags: How to Get a Bag Made for Your Brand
Short answer

Custom-made cotton tote bags come from an order in which, instead of choosing one of the ready-made models, you decide the size, fabric, colour, handle, pocket and print to suit your own needs. The process consists of request, quote, design approval, production and shipping. To start, it is enough to send the intended use, the estimated quantity and your logo file; the details are settled at the quote stage. We produce without intermediaries in our workshop in Konya Karatay.

When none of the ready-made models fits your size, colour or logo exactly, custom production comes in. You define the bag from scratch: what will go in it, how it will be carried, what colour it will be, where the logo will sit.

In our workshop in Konya Karatay we have made bags without intermediaries since 2013; in custom production too, no one comes between us. On this page you will find what can be changed, how to prepare the logo file, how design approval works and what information to write when making a request.

What Are Custom-Made Cotton Tote Bags?

Custom production is the name given to an order in which, instead of choosing one of the ready-made models in the catalogue, you determine the bag's size, fabric, colour, handle, pocket and print to suit your own needs. The same process is usually meant by custom-designed bags or brand-specific bag production; in some jobs only the print is custom, in others the whole bag is designed from scratch.

A ready-made model and custom production are not alternatives to each other but two starting points of the same process. You can like a ready-made model and only have your logo added, or have that model adapted to your own size. The table below shows where the two differ and which decisions are yours in custom production.

Which Details Can Be Specified in Custom Production?

Every detail you decide in custom production affects both the bag's look and its quote. You do not need to settle all the items below at the start; write the points you are unsure about in the request and we will weigh the options together. Whether each request can be applied to each fabric is also settled at the quote stage; so it helps to put your requests in order of importance.

  • Size: width, height and, if needed, gusset width.
  • Fabric: raw cotton, coloured fabric or nonwoven.
  • Colour: the colour of the fabric and the colours of the logo.
  • Handle: shape and length according to carrying by hand or on the shoulder.
  • Pocket: whether a pocket will be added to the bag.
  • Printing: screen printing, digital printing or embroidery; number of colours; one or two sides.
  • Extra details: model features such as a drawstring mouth.

How Do You Describe a Custom Size?

It is enough to write the size in centimetres as width, height and, if there is one, gusset. If you have a bag you like, spreading it flat and measuring it is the most reliable way. If there is no sample, measure the largest product or box that will go in; we size the bag accordingly.

For an idea: among the 171 products with a stated size in our catalogue, the most common sizes are 50x40, 30x40 and 45x35 cm. These are not an official norm, only commonly used sizes; the right size for your job depends on what you will carry. For a detailed size decision, you can also look at our Cotton Tote Bag Sizes guide.

How Do You Prepare the Logo File?

The file most ready for printing is a vector file; PDF, AI or EPS formats serve this purpose. A vector file does not blur when enlarged or reduced, so the logo's scale is easily adjusted to the size of the bag. If you only have a JPG or PNG, send that too; we will weigh together how to make it suitable for printing.

The plainer the design, the sharper the print. Very fine lines, small text and tones close to each other can fade on a fabric background. If your logo has such details, say so in your request from the start; we will choose the print method and the logo's size on the bag accordingly.

  • Vector logo file (PDF, AI or EPS).
  • If possible, a one-colour, simplified version of the logo.
  • Corporate colour codes, if you have them.
  • Any extra text to go on the bag: such as a slogan, phone number or address.

How Do Design Approval and Samples Work?

After you accept the quote, we prepare a design draft showing how your logo and text will sit on the bag, down to position and size. We present the draft for your approval and do not start production without approval. It is enough to send the points you want changed on the draft; the version you approve becomes the basis of production.

So before approving, look at the following: typos, phone and address details, logo colours, and the position and size of the print on the bag. If you want a physical sample, mention it during the quote; whether a sample is available and on what terms is settled at that stage. If you do not want a sample, it is also possible to proceed with the design draft alone.

Custom Production Steps from Request to Shipping

Although every custom job is different, the order of the steps does not change. The table shows what happens at each stage and what is expected of you. If your delivery date is tied to an event or campaign, write it in the first message; planning backwards from that date leaves enough room for the approval and production steps.

The steps in the table proceed in the same order regardless of order size; what changes is the number of details discussed at each step. Requests such as multi-colour printing, a custom size or an extra pocket need a little more discussion at the quote and design stage. So gathering all your requests in a single message shortens the correspondence.

What Should You Watch for in Corporate Custom Production?

In corporate orders, the bag often goes through the approval of several people: marketing assesses the logo, purchasing the quote, management the overall look. Naming the approver from the start prevents the draft from circulating among teams and changing again and again. If you work with an advertising agency, it also helps if the agency sends the design file directly.

If you have several stores or product groups, it is possible to have the same design prepared in different sizes; that way you have a suitable bag for each product with the same corporate look. We issue invoices for corporate orders and ship across Turkey by tracked shipping or freight. It is enough to send your invoice details at the order stage.

Frequently asked questions

It is enough to prepare the intended use, estimated quantity, the size you have in mind and your logo file. A vector logo (PDF, AI, EPS) is the easiest file to work with; if you do not have one, send your existing image.
